Table for Two: Using One VALUE Rubric to Assess Core Competencies and the GE Simultaneously

The foundational values of Pepperdine University’s mission are purpose, service, and leadership. These overarching values are found in both the academic and co-curricular programs. Our integrative assessment approach to the five core competencies has allowed us to examine oral communication within our mission at both the graduate and undergraduate level.

Assessing Core Competencies at Point Loma Nazarene University

Point Loma Nazarene University administers the Educational Testing Service (ETS) Proficiency Profile to measure three of the five core competencies: Written Communication, Critical Thinking, and Quantitative Reasoning (CFR 2.2a). We’ll discuss what PLNU has learned from gathering core competency data and explain how longitudinal analysis has begun to inform curricular improvements.
